When you start a family, it’s also reassuring to know that you’re beneficiaries are covered for a valuable package of protection in the event that you die or are forced to retire due to ill-health. The benefits continue during periods of maternity, paternity or adoption leave based on the pensionable salary you would have been paid if not on leave and include:
You are entitled to the following benefits in the event that you die whilst still paying into USS:
- Life assurance of three times annual salary, and
- Your spouse/civil partner/dependant would get a pension of 50% of your pension, based on service to age 65, and
- Children’s pensions of up to 75% in total of your pension based on service to age 65
Keep us informed as to who should receive these benefits. All members should complete a registration of potential dependant form If you are not married or not part of a civil partnership you can nominate a financial dependant to receive the equivalent of the spouse’s pension.
