Some aspects of pensions are complex and you are presented with difficult decisions to make; Should I transfer benefits into USS, should I pay additional voluntary contributions, how much cash should I take at retirement? These are just a few of the questions you may need to consider.
It is natural that members will want advice to help them make the decision that is best for them.
Staff at institutions and at USS can provide information about the scheme and the options available to members but cannot provide financial advice.
We recommend that if you need financial advice you contact a financial adviser. Please see below for a list of USS trained IFAs.
The Personal Finance Society
USS has worked closely with the Personal Finance Society (PFS) to develop a system whereby members can access financial advice.
The Personal Finance Society is the largest membership body for financial advisers (and those in related roles) in the UK market.
Created following the merger of the Life Insurance Association and Society of Financial Advisers in January 2005, the Personal Finance Society is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute Group.
The PFS has identified the most highly qualified financial advisers in the specific area of planning and in conjunction with USS arranged for these advisers to be trained in the aspects of USS.
Please see below for a list of these IFAs. Select the county in which you seek to find an IFA and a list of USS trained IFAs with their contact details will appear.
Please note: all advice will be on a fee basis to be agreed with the IFA and paid by you, details of which can be found here. Alternative arrangements for the provision of advice may be provided by your employer; please check with them first.
To find out more about the PFS you can visit the PFS website at www.thepfs.org
