A presentation for existing members of USS interested in increasing their retirement benefits by paying AVCs.
The government plans to introduce changes to restrict the tax relief available to high earning members of registered pension schemes. The proposals are due to come into force from April 2011, however the precise arrangements are not fully clear at this stage (as at December 2010). The trustee company is currently considering possible options for members to eliminate or mitigate the tax charges based on the information we have available, and further details will be announced in the near future. If you would like further details of the government's proposals please go to http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/consult_pensionsrelief.htm, and if you wish to see details of the anti-forestalling provisions - which govern the current pension saving by high earners - please go to the following link http://www.uss.co.uk/Documents/Anti-forestalling.pdf.
