Rethink on MPs' pension scheme

Ministers abandon plans to increase taxpayer contribution to MPs' pension scheme.
 

Ministers have abandoned plans to increase the taxpayer contribution to the pension scheme for MPs. The government backed down after the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives said they would vote to stop a 7 per cent rise in the public contribution to MPs' retirement benefits. A proposal will still go forward to increase MPs' contributions into their pensions by £60 a month.
