Rise in life expectancy

Increases in the last decade fuel debate about state pension age.
 

 

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows a rise in male and female life expectancy over the last decade. Currently a 65 year old male can expect to live on average a further 17.53 years, whilst for a female of the same age the figure is 20.17 years.

For men, this is almost a 10% increase which has prompted further speculation that the state pension age will need to increase for both men and women before the year 2020.
