  • Yes. If you had any period of active membership (where you were paying into USS) between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2024, and didn’t retire before 1 April 2024, a one-off pension uplift of £215 has been applied to your Retirement Income Builder benefits.

  • No. The JNC’s changes will only impact benefits built up after 1 April this year, so if you’re already retired, it won’t impact your pension. The benefits you’ve already built up are safe and secure and are protected by law, and that goes for the benefits already built up by non-retired members too.

  • Changes to USS pension benefits

  • If you were a USS member before 2016, you would’ve built your benefits in a different way to how you do now with the Retirement Income Builder and the Investment Builder. And if you left USS and later re-joined, you may have built up a mixture of benefits.

  • The Match is one way to make additional contributions to save more – you can choose to pay an additional 1% of your salary every month to the Investment Builder. If you paid The Match between October 2016 and March 2019, you would have received an extra 1% contribution from your employer too. But from 1 April 2019, the employer element of The Match was removed. You can still choose, or may still have, The Match. But your employer will no longer match the 1%.
