Gary became a Director of Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited in 2019. Gary is the Chair of the Group Audit & Risk Committee, a member of the Remuneration Committee, and the Designated non-executive director for USS.
Gary was the Chair of Council at the University of Leicester, having served as a Lay Member of Council since 2009. During his tenure, he also chaired the Remuneration and Nominations Committees and the University’s Stakeholder Pension Scheme.
Gary was part of the banking and pensions focused financial services group, Pointon York, where he was subsequently appointed Group CFO. He formed the Compliance Solutions group which provided regulatory consultancy and risk advisory services to regulated firms. Following the sale of this group to a global plc, Gary took on Non-Executive Director roles at a number of regulated firms such as Melton Mowbray Building Society, Guarantee Protection Insurance Ltd and Embark Group Ltd, amongst others. He is presently NED and Audit Committee chair of Trading 212 UK Limited, The Wesleyan Assurance Society Limited, Audit Committee Chair Wesleyan Financial Services Limited, and Trustee and Audit Committee Chair at Barclays UK Retirement Fund.
Gary trained as a Chartered Accountant with PwC after graduating in 1987 from the University of Leicester in Physics with Astrophysics. He’s a Fellow of the ICAEW and also holds an MBA from Warwick Business School.
