Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) is a trust based occupational pension scheme governed by a trust deed and rules.

Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited is the trustee of USS. It is responsible for ensuring that the scheme is administered in accordance with the trust deed and rules.

USS Investment Management Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited. It has delegated responsibility for the investment and management of the scheme’s assets.

On this website and any factsheets and guidance issued by Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited, a reference to:

  • USS primarily means the scheme but, where the context admits, may mean the trustee and/or USSIM;
  • the scheme means Universities Superannuation Scheme;
  • the trustee means Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited;
  • USSIM means USS Investment Management Limited;
  • we, us or our means the trustee but, where the context admits, may mean USSIM;
  • trust deed and rules means the scheme’s trust deed and rules. These may be altered from time to time. A copy of these can be found here.
