We take the amount of emissions a company we invest in emits and calculate how much of that company we own or invest in. So, if a company emits 1,000 tonnes CO2 and we own 2% of the company, the emissions financed by us would be 20 tonnes CO2.

We use a variety of engagement methods, including meeting individually with the company or entity, collaboratively engaging alongside other investors, co-filing, or submitting shareholder resolutions or proposals, publicly engaging the entity, voting, and divesting or implementing an exit strategy.
I have read the JNC is looking at alternative flexible options that would allow members to pay lower contributions. Is there any information on what this might look like? FAQ

At the moment, this is in the early stages. The JNC has set up a working group, which is looking at what changes could be made to reduce the cost of the scheme to members so that less members leave because of affordability. This group is developing a report which will be discussed by the JNC in April after which consultation with stakeholders is expected to follow. Is USS committed to the long-term provision of a defined benefit scheme? FAQ

We understand the value that a defined benefit scheme has for many members. The vast majority of staff working at USS are also members of the scheme. Our role is to ensure the benefits you’ve been promised by your employer can be paid. It’s not up to us to decide what type of benefits are provided by the scheme - that’s a decision for the Joint Negotiating Committee.
