When you start building your pension with us, it’s USS Investment Management Limited who manage the assets and take care of the investments in which your contributions go. Once you’ve left USS, you may be able to transfer your pension to any HMRC-registered scheme (if your new scheme allows it).

All members can build an Investment Builder pot. If you earn above the salary threshold, you’ll start saving into it automatically. Or, if you make additional contributions or transfer in other pension savings, you’ll also save into it.

USS stands for Universities Superannuation Scheme. We’re the largest private pension scheme in the country in terms of assets. Established in 1974, we’re the principal pension scheme for universities and higher education institutions in the UK.

When you and your employer start contributing to USS, you automatically begin to build a pension in the Retirement Income Builder.
