Employers will stop making their match contributions

If you have the match, your employer will stop matching your 1% of additional contributions from next month’s payday.

Unless you’ve already chosen to cancel the match, you’ll keep on saving an extra 1% of your salary in your USS Investment Builder pot every month, but your employer will no longer match it.

If you want to cancel the match, sign into My USS and click the ‘manage my contributions’ button. It could take up to eight weeks for your match contribution to stop, depending on your employer’s payroll process.

You can opt back in at any time or you can make additional contributions of more than 1% of your salary, by signing into My USS and choosing to make regular monthly or one-off contributions using the form on the ‘Manage my contributions’ page.

You don’t have to cancel the match

You can keep on paying your 1% contributions and boosting your USS Investment Builder pot. Even without your employer’s match contribution, putting away a bit extra each month could make a difference to the cash you save for the future.

Salary sacrifice

If your employer offers salary sacrifice and you have the match, check with your employer’s pensions team whether cancelling the match and replacing it with additional contributions now or in the future could affect your salary sacrifice position.
